  • 2008/9 Winter Vets league

  • There will again be 2 vets leagues in 2008/9, with Cheltenham Civil Service being promoted to Div 1 after comfortably winning the division 2 title last year. East Glos are now fielding a fifth side, and we have 2 new clubs entering teams in the league this year, with Evesham Rowing Club returning after several years of absence, and Old Pats entering a team for the first time. As before, the matches will be 3-a-side, and will be played on a Saturday at around 5pm, and as in previous years there will also be a 5-a-side team knockout competition.

  • The GSA is looking for a sponsor for next season. The fee for this of £750pa for a 2 year period - which includes the cost of producing the marking pads and shirts for all inter county players. Can interested parties please contact Phil Taylor on 07768747589.

The nominated adult must be present and supervise the junior at all times, including whilst oncourt (from the viewing gallery), off-court and in the changing rooms.

  • You must ensure your players are registered, your team contact details correct, you have paid your £45 entry fee, and your England Squash affiliation is up to date - before your first match !

  • Important Note - due to flooding the Cotswold teams are unable to play at home in the first half, and so will have to swap over all their home matches. We'll try to play these on the same night, but if that is a problem for the opponents then try to rearrange in the same week on any other night. If that is still not possible, then please contact us via the website.

  • If you need any marking pads, please contact Phil Taylor on 07768747589 to arrange to pick them up from the Riverside Club.

  • Anne Stevenson

  • With deep regret we inform you of the untimely death of Anne Stevenson following a road accident on Thursday 2nd August.

  • Anne had been a member of the Dursley Squash Club for over 20 years and when the ladies had their own separate divisions, she played for Stroud Ladies for several years. Over the last 10 years she had also served as an active committee member and on several occasions had organised club tournaments and social events. Anne will always be remembered as a very competitive and determined player but always playing fair and sportingly.

  • She will be sadly missed by all and our sympathies go out to Dave, her husband and her children, Kim, Ryan and James.

  • Lee Carson and Dan Loton Football Aid Matches in memory of Ed Johnson

  • Hi to all of you – Well, I have done my Anfield match and Danny boy did white hart Lane. (I know I have spoken to some of you already) We both scored and are awaiting the final figures re the total amount raised, expect it to be around the 3K mark. As far as my match went I had Jan Molby in my team, he still has the skill but is even bigger than he was. John Durnin was on the opposing team and I felt like I was following him around for most of the match. I scored our second goal to put us up 2-1 just before half time, first half was tight and we were fortunate to go in one up….the second half was a different matter, we had a couple of good players come on and we controlled the second half comfortably and we ran out 8-1 winners. J I was fortunate enough to be awarded man of the match again, ensuring that my final game had a wonderful finish, given the match ball from Jan. I am waiting to see the dvd to see if my goal was as good as I remember it. Fantastic day, many thanks to all our sponsors for helping raise awareness and funds for footballaid/type one juvinille diabetes. The Anfield event raised a total amount of around £60K the most raised at any club in the history of football aid at that time. See you soon Lee.

  • Wildin and Co have kindly agreed a 2 year sponsorship deal with Gloucestershire Squash with the aim of having the top mens county side in the country. Gloucestershire has a highly talented group of county players who, under the guidance of Dave Morrish, can become the mens inter county champions. Alex Stait, Alister Walker, Jonny Harford, Robbie Temple, Chris Tasker-Grindley and others will be contracted to represent the county and take the county team into the premier league. This will raise the profile of squash in Gloucestershire and give the currently very strong junior section motivation to aspire to the high standard of squash played by the mens team.

  • League Individual Tournament

  • The GSA used to run a league individual event...this involved players from each division playing a knockout event amongst themselves....in other words to give an opportunity for players in each league to see who is the best in their league and to play competitively against players from another club without being part of a team. This knockout event involves games organised between players on a strict play by date basis.

  • In its first year back we suggest an entry fee of £5 with a plate event to ensure a minimum of two games...This money to be used as prize money. A successful first year will lead to sponsorhip in future years and greater prize funds.

  • Entry forms are being sent out to all team captains via the clubs. Entries close by 6th October and additional entry forms can be requested via admin AT riversidesports.co.uk with contact name and address details. Please could all team captains encourage their players to enter this event. The more entries the better the event

24 February 2005
  • Gloucestershire County Closed Championships Review - In the mens vintage event (0-55) the current champion, John Turner (Glos Civil Service) successfully defended his title against Mike Critchley (Glos Civil Service) 9/3 10/8 9/3. In the Veterans event (0-45) Ginny Tejar again successfully defended his title but only by the narrowest of margins. Gary Powell pushed him all the way and in a final full of top quality squash lost 10/8 in the 5th game.

  • The men's main event the withdrawal of Alex Stait meant there would be a new Champion. Jonny Harford (Birmingham University), the new no1 seed had an easy run to the final beating Tom Elgood (East Glos) 9/1 9/0 9/0 and Rich Cannock (Riverside) 9/4 9/2 9/4. Robert Shepard the new no2 seed dismissed David Naish 9/2 9/0 9/2 but had a harder match in the semi-finals beating Phil Taylor (Riverside) 3/9 9/2 9/0 4/9 9/2.

  • In the final Jonny always looked the sharper player and took the first game 9/6. He then took the pace up to another level and won the next game in an impressive manner 9/0. In the final game Shepard put up more resistance but to no avail and Harford became the new County Champion winning 9/5.

  • Many thanks to all who entered , to the sponsors The County Group Cheltenham and to the referees who give up their weekend. Entries for this years' event were relatively poor with the ladies being pathetic with only one lady bothering to enter. This will not be the case next year when entry into the championships permits County representation at Inter County events.

  • Let's make next years' event bigger and better.....especially you ladies!!

24 February 2005

22 January 2005
  • Cotswold, Cirencester Leisure Centre - Squash Court under threat !

  • Luke Packman reports ... We have been notified by our council that they intend to turn 1 of the 3 squash courts at the Sports Centre into extra gym space. As the 3 courts are the only council provided courts in their entire area as well as the only courts within 15 miles available to us we are petitioning against it.

  • This would have happened in the 1st week of January but luckily for us the gym equiptment ordered has not been delivered yet. This decision has not been discussed with any of the Sports Centre users and the first anyone knew about it was when our local paper published a story the day before Xmas eve! We feel that the council have been very underhand about the situation and want to show them the courts are a valued local resource.

16 January 2005
  • Refereeing and Marking course @Riverside on Sunday 16th January from 7pm - 9pm (£2.00) run by Bruce Kettle. Can all players please note that they will be required to have attended a course by the start of next season.

21 December 2004
  • Team Reps - You can now change the order of your team players (see the Team Reps> Team>Team Players> Change Team Order menu option). However, any change you make can be seen on the new Team> Player Changes webpage which logs every move !

  • Also, please ensure your team contact details and start times have been entered and are correct ! Email me (or look in the online help) if you don't know how to do this. I have received several emails from captains trying to contact other teams who haven't entered this info yet !

27 November 2004
  • The 2003/04 season Division 1 winners plaque is at Riverside, can the team please contact Phil Taylor to arrange to collect - 07768 747 589.

19 November 2004
  • Website Match Card: I have updated the online Match Card this evening - so you can now add reserve players into the team selection list. This means, there should be no more 'Unknown player' entries on submitted match cards - since if this option is still required a team has fielded an unregistered player and will forefeit match points. The reserve player selection lists appear below the reps comment box. These lists hold all players registered to a club. To add a reserve into the team selection lists, select the player in the reserve list and click the 'Add' button. The selected reserve will then appear in the bottom of the team selection list. You will now also find a {Walkover} option in the team player list should this be required.

  • New Website Page: you can now see your own match history - the new webpage is accessed via the Team>Players page.

7 November 2004
  • Teams with HOME matches against Wycliffe B: Dave Morrish of Wycliffe B would like to inform the division 2 captains that unfortunately when his team is visiting you they will not be able to stay for the match meal. This is not an anti-social gesture - but due to the age of the team players. (Still, makes for a cheap night for the home team ...)

31 October 2004
  • Teams playing at Tewkesbury Park: The wet side of Tewkesbury Park closes at 10pm which is attached to the changing rooms for the squash players. Several matches have over run (past 10pm) which is acceptable by management if the matches start on time. But several teams have been arriving at the club at the start of match time, rather than ready to go on court at match time. Please could all teams playing at the Park be ready to go on court at 7.30pm

  • Teams playing at Dowty Staverton: Dowty Staverton Squash Teams have to book food 2 weeks in advance as it is brought in from outside caterers. If any teams have players who have special dietary requests, i.e. vegetarian or allergies, we require notification a full 2 weeks ahead. We cannot provide any alternative on the night apart from a packet of crisps!

17 October 2004
  • Match Start Times: Can team captains please ensure their team arrive at away fixtures on time, or if players are going to be late then please contact the home team captain prior to the match. Already this season, there have been several instances of players turning up very late and causing problems for home teams with court and meal times.

  • Can team reps please ensure their match start times are on their Team Details webpage - you can edit this entry from your team rep menu - or email me if you are having a problem finding how to do this.

01 October 2004
  • FYI: Teams with Fixtures at Cotswold Leisure Centre: Message From Brian Smith : I think it would be advisable to tell all teams that when they are coming to the Cotswold Leisure Centre that they should allow enough time to park their cars. It is chaos at the moment as building works have started on the new Leisure Centre. This means that there is very little car parking available and teams may have to walk from the nearest Car Park in town (The Station Car Park). They will need to allow another 10 minutes. I mention this as the position will be poor throughout the season as the Leisure Centre gets very busy with other activities.

25 September 2004
  • Where's the Table and Fixture menu options gone ?! - I've regrouped the menu options in a more 'logical' order - things to do with the selected team are all under the Team menu, and things to do with the selected division are under the Division menu. I've also added a new page - The 'Wanted' page - found under the Divisions menu, it lists all the match results not yet entered for the selected division. If you are the home team in this list - your're on the wanted list - so get and enter the result, before it's too late ... !

23 September 2004
  • I've added the 'Team> Players' menu option so anyone can now view registered team player lists, and also the 'Help> Website User Manual' which contains information about how to find things on the website, and also how to go about entering match results.

  • Thanks for all the results which have been entered. I'll try and find a moment to correct the 'unknown players' in the fixture results - sometime soon.

21 September 2004
  • Well, we've now got our first results on the website - well done to East Glos G (for winning the match, and working out how to enter your results - I wonder which was harder ?)

  • A big thank-you to all the team reps who have registered. If anyone from East Glos E, Stroud B, C, or Dowty Arle B reads this then can you please register a team rep - otherwise how are you going to enter your results ?

  • If you have any questions about how to enter results, then check out the Help> FAQs web page - I've put lots of possible questions I could think of (and their answers !) so hopefully yours might be amongst them.
